Old system components

I replaced parts of my system during the overall upgrade. I have a Sony tuner from the late eighties and a Sansui AU-505 stero amplifier from the seventies.

The amplifier lost one channel just before the upgrade but had a noisy volume potentiometer for sveral years before that, and a broken paddle swtich. I recently sw some Sansui paddle switches for sale on eBay. A new pot, or some contact cleaner will improv the amp's condition. Fortunately, I'm trained as an electronics engineering technician and have a DVM and ocsillosope to use in troubleshooting the amp.

A website on the web archives old audio gear data including schematics for some. I found the Owner's guide and a set of scematics and service manul for the Sansui amp. This gives me everythin I need to find the problem.

The Sony tuner is still good.

Computer speakers are too wirey. Headphones too dicey.

  I had hoped to improve my laptop video viewing experience with the addition of a couple og HP computer speakers. The wiring of the speakers has proved to be a nuisance. They don't fit in to the overall system. They would be great if I had a desktop in a fixed and permanent position, but I move my laptop around and don't want to haul the speakers around too.  I dumped them.  Maybe a couple of bluetooth speakers. The wifi headphones turned out to be dicey. I got my money back from the eBay seller. I can run the phones once I remove the circuitboard from the pplastic housing. Then recharging batteries becomes a nuisance. Dumping the speakers and, provisionally, the headphones. Bluetooth is probably the way to go.

Movie database

    I have, for some years now, been downloading and curating videos, mostly movies, covering the last 120 years.    There is a lot of work in acquiring and managing the collection. Methods of acquistion that were valid ten years ago, do not work today. Continual adaptation to the current technology is needed.    But I digress. During work with my system, I discovered the router was building a hidden database of  the contents of drives connected to the router. The file format is SQLite.    The online movie database IMDB, allows users to download the dataset. I did, and used a Python script, I discovered online, to create an IMDB database file in SQLite format.    For years, I've been cataloging all my disks using a small but fast cataloger named Cathy. LG SmartTV and WebOS hacks

The LG SmartTV has an operating system installed, just like a personal computer. The one on my laptop is Windows 10 Pro. I also have one of the many 'flavors' of Linux installed inside the Windows operating system. The one on my Apple cell phone is iOS. The one on my Raspberry Pi is 'Raspbian Buster', before that, 'Raspbian Stretch' was resident. The one on the TV is WebOS. That operating system is used by LG for many devices. I also have an LG washing machine with wifi capability using that operating system. The system was made open source some time ago. That means, interested people can contribute to the evolution of the software, or make a spin-off of the own. I'm considering the options available using a custom build of the software. I hope to make saving video data for future viewing opssible. Some LG models have/had a recorder on board. My model does not.
